People Who Have Overcome Autism

Autism is a terrible disease that affects individuals during the time of youth and continues to affect them throughout their lifetime.  Over the past 10 years or so, this particular disease has been on the rise and now is reported to affect some three quarters of 1% of all individuals that are born today.  Although there are many different considerations for why there is such a sharp rise in the number of cases, that doesn't help the individuals who are already suffering from the disease.  What hope is there for people with autism?  Are there people who have overcome autism?

First, we must let you know that there is no scientific or medical reason to believe that autism can be overcome.  That being said, there are some individuals who claim to have overcome the autism that they had when they were a child.  They do this through natural means, diet, supplementation and holistic therapy.  Whether or not these individuals are actually people who have overcome autism are not is not up for me to decide.  I just realize that at times, there are ways to overcome diseases that medical science is not able to touch.

There is also a list of people who have overcome autism who are considered famous by today's standards as well.  These individuals range in professions from actors and actresses to basketball players and poets.  In fact, there is one person who had autism who was not only a poet, he was also considered to be a very famous philosopher.  Just because these people were able to overcome their autism does not mean that they were cured of the disease.  Many of these individuals had fully functional autism, which allowed them to develop more than somebody who is severely troubled by the disease.

Hopefully, medical science will come up with a way to completely obliterate this particular disease from our society.  Then the list of people who have overcome autism will continue to grow.  It gives us hope that someday our loved ones may be able to overcome the problems that they are now experiencing.

Autism Fact #1

Because of the special way autistic minds function, normal teaching methods don't work. Understanding how the autistic mind functions, allows you to take advantage of this functionality to provide specialized teaching that will help young autistic minds learn much more rapidly than they could with standard teaching methods.

Autism Fact #2

The autistic mind tends to function in a visual manner. Specialized teaching for autism makes heavy use of pictures. Using words to describe something is nearly useless. Providing pictures of what you are describing is much more successful. Even better though is taking the child to see the actual item or place being described.

Autism Fact #3

Take advantage of the natural skills an autistic child may have, instead of focusing on weaker points. It is interesting to note that although autistic children tend to be visual and are often very good at drawing, they can also be very good with music. Take advantage of this by creatively using music and art as part of teaching other topics.
